Take heed to yourself
“Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;” - Deuteronomy 4:9
We are people who have seen the greatness of our God. We have experienced His marvellous deeds and witnessed great miracles. Above all, we have freely received the greatest gift of salvation and are counted as the children of the Almighty God through His Son.
But being a part of these privileges, we often tend to forget these wondrous works of our God. We go about our lives as normal people, compromising with the world, and not fully acknowledging His presence. Having seen the beauty of the Lord in everything around us, we tend to live our lives as though He does not exist by focusing on the disappointments that we cause ourselves.
To say that the children of Israel were a privileged folk is a huge understatement. They were chosen by God Himself to be His people and did many wonders for them. Having seen the greatness of God on many occasions they still forgot Him and went back to the ways of the world.
Let us ‘take heed to ourselves, and keep our souls diligently’ to remind ourselves of everything we have witnessed, heard and experienced from God. Let us count our blessings, teach ourselves and our children the works of this great God, lest we fall into the temptations that the world brings and perish along with it.
