Preparing the heart

“Our hearts are to be prepared to do things as He commands.”

“For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.” - Ezra 7:10

We read of many characters in the Bible who prepared and purposed in their hearts to diligently seek to do what the Lord commanded them. It is clear that they were not being forced into it, but they understood the goodness and grace of the great God of Israel, who was patient with His people even in their unfaithfulness.

Have you prepared your heart to seek the law of the LORD? More importantly, have you prepared your heart to do the things that He has commanded you to do?

We often find it difficult to stand apart from the crowd because we have not prepared our hearts to follow Christ wholeheartedly. The world keeps hauling us into its clutches and occasionally we allow it to do so because we are in many ways dependent on it rather than God.

Let our hearts be prepared to seek to do God’s will. Let us like Daniel, purpose in our hearts to make our Master proud by standing apart from the world.
