The Sinful Nature behind

“We cannot carry our sinful nature along while following Christ.”

“And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.” - Mathew 4:20

The disciples “straightway left their nets” to follow Jesus. The nets were an asset to them that helped them with their only source of income. They became aware and convinced that they cannot carry their nets along with them if they’ve got to follow Jesus.

Our forefathers left behind a lot, just to hold on to their faith. And what they left were all not simply materialistic. They included family and friends. Most importantly they included every single part of their sinful nature.

Theoretically, we too left our sinful nature behind when we prayed the prayer for being saved. But practically what we often do is, bend down and pick each part of that sinful nature back up again and carry it with us, struggling to follow Jesus with a whole heart. Our journey behind Him is difficult only because of our own iniquities. We need to be aware and convinced that we cannot carry our sinful nature along with us if we’ve got to follow the Savior.
