Rock of offence
“And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.” - 1 Peter 2:8
Christ is ‘the way, the truth and the life’. He is the word of God. His word always tends to offend people who do not believe in it and becomes a ‘stumbling block’ to those who are disobedient.
This is because the word speaks the truth, and the truth is not accepted by the world since it is influenced by the ‘father of lies’ (John 8:44).
Have you been offended by anything pointed out to you through the word of God? Chances are that you have been disobedient and the word of God is reminding you about it. We as children of God, should not be offended when the truth is being spoken. We are to take it to heart and change our ways to match the will of our Savior, Christ Jesus.
When we become obedient to Christ, the world will take offence in us. It will strive to prove us wrong and try to turn us away from the truth.
But we are not influenced by the father of lies. We are influenced by the blood of Christ that speaks innocence and holiness. So let us continue to be obedient to the word.
