A Faithful Apprentice
“But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state. For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state. For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s. But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.” - Philippians 2:19-22
Timothy was like a son to Paul. Here we see a beautiful testimony of Paul about this ‘son’ of his; “I have no one else who is like-minded as him for the care he provides for God’s people.”
Timothy was Paul’s strong support and encouragement in the ministries that he undertook. He proved himself to be a faithful minister of God from his young age and worked zealously to serve other people. This quality never went unnoticed by Paul. He had full confidence that Timothy would be the one to carry out his responsibilities faithfully after his time is done.
We see a few other examples in the Bible such as these with regards to Master and Apprenticeship like Elijah and Elisha, Jesus and His disciples etc., We see the dedication of these apprentices to serve their masters, sacrificing everything they held dear for the sake of the Kingdom of God, even from their young ages.
Who do we follow? Who do we look up to? We have One True Master, and that is our Lord Jesus Christ. We know that He stands as our mediator between us and the Father. Have you ever wondered what testimony Jesus would testify about you to the Father? Have you been faithful enough that He is fully confident about your service toward Him and His people?
Let us work zealously and diligently to make our Master proud of us! Let us not seek for the things which are our own, but of Jesus Christ’s.
