The Writer's Tongue

Psalms 45

1.      My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

Does my heart overflow with praises? Do I meditate on the King? Does praises overflow from my heart and my mind into my tongue? What dominates my speech?

Ps 34:1 I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

Listen what I have to say about my King, for I have much to say.

2.      Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.

He is the fairest of ten thousand.

Luke 4:22 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth.

Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus

3.      Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty.

Asking Lord Jesus to come quickly in His glory and majesty.

Mat 24:31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory.

Rev 1:7,8- His second coming.

4.      And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.

When He comes to rule, no one can stop Him.

He will come for the ones who hold truth, and meekness, and righteousness.

He will come in a time when the truth is fallen on the streets; meek are persecuted; and the righteous are murdered.

His right hand taught Him the nature of man.

5.      Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies; whereby the people fall under thee.

His arrows- His words pierce his enemies and bring them in submission to Him.

Once we were His enemies, but His words pierced our hearts and brought us to His fold.

Heb 4:12- For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

6.        Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre. (Heb 1:8)

Jesus Christ shall reign forever. The kings of the world change; but Christ has reigned over all generations and He will reign forevermore.

The scepter/ authority that He possesses is well deserving of our Lord.

Rev 11:15- The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

Mat 28:18 All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

7.        Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. (Heb 1:9)

He has no sin, He hates wickedness; but He loved us: even when we were dead in trespasses and sins.

He endured the cross for the joy set before Him, to make us righteous.

Luke 15:7 joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

8.      All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.

2 Cor. 2:14,15 Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:

9.      Kings' daughters were among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir.

Perhaps the Psalmist sees the King in His future glory.

He sees the queen, the Church on His right hand decked in gold, symbolizing the garment of righteousness.

Rev 19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

10.    Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father's house;

Pay attention to His words and consider our ways. Listen carefully to Him and die to the old ways. (Put away old garments)

Mat 10:37,38 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.  And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

11.    So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him.

The only beauty that God desires is holiness. Be adorned in holiness. Our worship shall be through a holy life.

Ps 96:9 O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness:

12.    And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour.

This shows the Church reigning over the world when Christ comes. Even the so-called ‘richest’ and the ‘most powerful’ shall come under the rule of Christ and His Church.

13.    The king's daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold.

The beauty of the church is from within. The Holy Spirit perfects her from within.

14.    She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee.

The church shall stand before her beloved King. She will be adorned with the garment of righteousness; her sanctification perfected by the Holy Spirit. Every work of God in our life today is to perfect the needlework; to make us stand before our King in all the beauty He desires from us.

Her companions- perhaps the ones who were saved through the tribulation.

15.    With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the king's palace.

Rev 19:6 Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him the glory. For the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready

16.    Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth.

Perhaps it talks about the Church reigning.

Fathers: Old testament saints. Children: Children of God.

17.    I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever.

Christ has ruled every generation. And He will reign for all eternity. His praise shall be for ever.
