The Writer's Tongue

A true Friend

Thy voice like honey

Falls on my ears

But words it carries

Awakens my fears

Truths that flow

From thy lips to my soul

Illuminates the depths

Of a roughly hewn hole

Wherewithal shall I keep

From thee

Thy voice is burned

In my memory

Not withstanding

Thy kind words to me

When shall I learn

To be like thee?

A whisper and I listen

An order, I understand

Thou tellest me then

To take a stand

Thy silence is deafening

When in doubt I rebel

Yet the smile in thine eyes

One can foretell

Thy commands carry authority

One cannot disobey

Yet thy laughter, with such gaiety

One must stay

To be under thine hand

I accept with pride

Honor and integrity

Are at thy side

Thou hast broken the silence

Of my reverie

Thou hast loosened my bonds

I now fly free

Words that I speak

My lips do err

But I forever will know

That thou art fair

My thanks to thee

Never will they end

For I know that thou art

A True Friend
